UST Operator Training Resources for New York

The New York Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) requires all Class A and Class B operators to pass a state-administered online exam. For Class C operators, training is given by a certified Class A or Class B operator. Below we detail requirement information and provide quick links to exam information.

Class A, Class B and Class C Operator Requirements for New York

The New York DEC requires the examination of all Class A and Class B operators. The required exam is administered by the DEC. To help operators prepare for the exam, the DEC also provides an Operator Training Guide called TankIQ.

For Class C operators, the DEC requires operators to be trained and assessed by a Class A or Class B operator.

Reciprocity & Additional Resources

New York may accept operator certifications from other states. If a Class A/B operator is currently authorized by another state whose operator training program has been reviewed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and is listed on their website, they may apply for reciprocity through the DEC online exam website.
