Massachusetts UST Operator Examinations and Third-Party Inspector Examinations

The exams - Operator Certification and Third Party Inspector - are "open book"; you may find it useful to print out the study materials and the MassDEP Regulations or bookmark them in your web browser for reference before you start your exam.
- Choose Your Exam

Click the "Enter" tab under "Operator Training and Examination Program". Once you select Massachusetts, choose your operator certification exam or the TPI exam from the "Select Operator Type" dropdown.
- Payment ($75).

Each exam will cost $75. If you need to retake an exam you will need to pay the $75 fee each time.
- Start Your Exam

Begin your exam only when you are fully prepared to complete it in one sitting, you must finish in the allotted time. There is no way for you to pause and resume your exam later or to skip questions and go back.
- Get Your Results

You must get at least 80% of all the questions in the exam correct and get no less than 60% of the questions correct in each subject area to pass the examination. Remember to print your results screen for your records.

Class A Operator
To pass Antea Group’s Massachusetts Class A Operator Examination, Users must correctly answer 60% of questions from twelve separate subject areas, and they must correctly answer 80% of the questions for the entire exam to successfully pass. Users are NOT given a certificate, however they are provided results upon exam completion. Certificates will be sent to Class A Operators from MassDEP. Total exam time should not exceed 3 hours.
Class B Operator
To pass Antea Group’s Massachusetts Class B Operator Examination, Users must correctly answer 60% of questions from ten separate subject areas, and they must correctly answer 80% of the questions for the entire exam to successfully pass. Users are NOT given a certificate, however they are provided results upon exam completion. Certificates will be sent to Class B Operators from MassDEP. Total exam time should not exceed 3 hours.
Class A/B Operator
To pass Antea Group’s Massachusetts Class A/B Operator Examination, Users must correctly answer 60% of questions from twelve separate subject areas, and they must correctly answer 80% of the questions for the entire exam to successfully pass. Users are NOT given a certificate, however they are provided results upon exam completion. Certificates will be sent to Class A/B Operators from MassDEP. Total exam time should not exceed 4 hours.
Reciprocity Operator
To pass Antea Group’s Massachusetts Reciprocity Operator Examination, Users must correctly answer 80% of the questions from a 30-question exam to successfully pass. Users are NOT given a certificate, however they are provided results upon exam completion. Certificates will be sent to Reciprocity Operators from MassDEP. Total exam time should not exceed 2 hours.
To be eligible, persons must be certified as a Class A, B, or A/B UST Operator in another state and be able to verify certification. MassDEP may verify your operator status in the state you indicated prior to issuing your certificate. Operators who are currently certified as a Class A, B, or A/B UST Operator in another state are qualified to take the Massachusetts Reciprocity Exam. The Massachusetts Reciprocity Examination contains Massachusetts specific UST Program questions only. Persons taking and passing the Massachusetts Reciprocity Examination will be issued the same Operator Certificate (Class A, B, or A/B) as issued by the state where they are currently certified.
Third-Party Inspector
To pass Antea Group’s Third-Party Inspector (TPI) Examination, Users must correctly answer 80% of the questions from a 30-question exam to successfully pass. Users are NOT given a certificate, however they are provided results upon exam completion. Certificates will be sent to Third-Party Inspectors from MassDEP. Total exam time should not exceed 2 hours.
All courses will expire and must be completed within 90 days of purchase. Please also note to use Google Chrome or Firefox as your browser. Internet Explorer and Edge can have issues with some aspects of your course.
